Margate, Broward County
Demolition in Margate
Margate's name joins its founder, Jack Marqusee, with the word gateway, from its 1955 start as a gateway to western Broward. On a commercial demolition, the city's checklist calls for a six-foot driven-pole chain-link fence with windscreen around the site and a stone wash-out pad at the entrance.
The stone pad is specified closely: coarse aggregate at least six inches thick, the full width of the driveway and fifty feet long. Its job is to take mud and debris off truck tires before they reach a public road. The same checklist asks for a notarized letter stating where dust-control water will come from, proof that refrigerant was recovered from the air conditioning units, and a Maintenance of Traffic permit for any work in the right of way.
Residential demolition is simpler on paper. The city wants the notarized uniform permit application, a signed contract as proof of cost, a Notice of Commencement above the value threshold, and a current signed and sealed survey identifying the structure to be removed. Applications missing those minimums are not accepted.

City of Margate Building and Code Services
The department's demolition checklist sets separate minimums for residential and commercial work, and permits are applied for through the city's online portal. Commercial demolition adds a site management plan and a separately permitted perimeter fence.

Questions
Demolition in Margate
What site protection does Margate require on a commercial demolition?
The checklist calls for a six-foot driven-pole chain-link fence with access gates and windscreen around the perimeter, under its own permit, and a stone wash-out pad at the entry. A site management plan shows fences, dumpsters, storage and tree protection. We carry those items in the base scope, not as extras.
What does a demolition cost?
Every job is quoted from a site visit, or from photos and drawings when that is enough to see the scope. The number depends on what the building is made of, its size and height, what the asbestos survey finds, which utilities must be disconnected, access for equipment, how close the neighbors are, what stays and what goes, and where the debris is hauled. We do not publish prices, because two jobs that look alike rarely are.
What happens with asbestos before demolition?
The building is surveyed first by an independent licensed consultant, because federal rules require a thorough asbestos inspection before a regulated demolition and the county's notice depends on it. If the survey finds asbestos that the work will disturb, a licensed abatement firm removes it. Romco coordinates both; we are not an abatement contractor.
How long does a demolition take?
We do not quote durations before the facts are in. The schedule depends on permit review in your city, how quickly the utility disconnect letters arrive, what the asbestos survey finds and any notice period that follows, association approvals, and the size and construction of the building. Once those are known, we give you a sequence with the dependencies named.
